  • St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

     

    Tri Delta is proud to have such a worthwhile national philanthropy as Children's Cancer Charities. This encompasses a wide array of charitable organizations throughout the United States and Canada. Since 1974, Tri Deltas nationally have raised more than $10 million in support of children's cancer hospitals, research facilities and cancer camps.

    In November 1999, Tri Delta further enhanced its current philanthropic focus by forming a partnership with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. This partnership allows Tri Delta chapters the option to help St. Jude on a national level as well      as support traditional philanthropic events for local children's cancer charities.  To date, Tri Delta has raised more than $9.1 million dollars for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  The current goal for chapters across the country is to raise $10 million  by 2010!

     

     

    St. Jude is unlike any other pediatric treatment and research facility. Discoveries made there have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. With research and patient care under one roof, St. Jude is where some of today's most gifted researchers are able to do science more quickly.

     

    St. Jude is a place where many doctors send some of their sickest patients and toughest  cases. A place where cutting-edge research and revolutionary discoveries happen every day. The greatest thing about the hospital is that  all patients accepted for treatment at St. Jude are treated without regard to the family's ability to pay.

    Letter Writing Campaign

    Last fall, Pi Chapter held our 5th annual St. Jude's Lette r Writing campaign, which continues to grow more successful with every year we participate! With lots of help from girls in the house (and some pizza, of course), we were able to write letters for hours to our family and friends, asking for donations to St. Jude's on behalf of our chapter. We were able to raise almost $6000! For the Spring 2010 semester, we paired up with the boys of TKE, a fraternity on campus who also raises money for St. Jude’s, which allowed us to meet their members and write even more letters! The campaign went amazingly well this year and we can only hope we raise more money in the years to come!

     

    Delta House of Pancakes (DHOP)

    Kristin, Brooke, Sandia, Ben, Roslynn In the Fall of 2006, Pi chapter created the Delta House of Pancakes to raise even more money for Saint Jude's. Students and local residents, even Alumni, joined the Tri Delts at the Tri Delta House after the Big Game for an all you can eat pancake buffet. A Pancake eating contest was held and the competition was tough. In the end, we raised over $3000 dollars for Saint Jude's and enjoyed a yummy breakfast at the same time. The pancake breakfast has been held anually since then and has been extremely successful in raising funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  In the past two Spring Semesters, Pi Chapter decided to host a different philanthropy event similar to DHOP called Delta Nacho Noche, in which unlimited nachos are served.  This event not only successfully raised money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, but it also served as the perfect study snack for our Cal Bears!
